Teacher
Birth-To-Five Head Start Program (Pre-School Division)

Essential Job requirements:   Requires an Associate, Baccalaureate, or Advanced Degree in early childhood education or a field related to early childhood with experience in teaching preschool children, or at a minimum a GED or High School Diploma with a Child Development Associate Certificate and a willingness to work toward a Degree in early childhood. At least 1 year of experience in early childhood is required. Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and TB test. Must successfully pass a physical exam. Must possess a valid Food Handler's permit and First Aid and CPR certification. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's license (Operators-Class C), and is subject to review/approval by insurance company on driving record. Criminal background check will be conducted. Dresses in appropriate attire with a neat personal appearance. Requires 1.5 CEU’s annually and 15 clock hours of training each year to meet TDPRS requirements.

Employment Classification:   Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt
Working Hours:   Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Responsibilities:   Maintains open lines of communications with immediate supervisor, subordinates, parents, and volunteers. Has classroom material ready at all times. Writes and implements daily lesson plans allowing an opportunity for parent input. Involves parents in educational activities to enhance their role as the principal influence on the child's education and development. Provides materials appropriate to the child's age and level of development. Serves the cultural background of the children using classroom materials, activities and related languages. Keeps in touch with each child's family by making two (2) home visits each school year. Works closely with the children's family and the Family Advocate to maintain attendance. Serves meals and snacks, prepares children for nap or rest time and toilet training. Participates in Pre-Service training once a year and on-going in-service workshops as required by the Program. Reinforces classroom and environmental safety. Maintains adequate amount of supplies at the center. Puts together thematic bulletin boards in the classrooms. Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor, Education Coordinator and/or Head Start Director that benefit the Program.
