Assistant Teacher
Birth-To-Five Head Start Program (Pre-School Division)

| Essential Job requirements: Requires High School diploma or GED and willingness to continue formal education when possible. Adequate documentation must be provided to support education requirements. Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and TB test. Must successfully pass a physical exam. Must possess or obtain a valid Food Handler's permit and First Aid and CPR certification within two (2) weeks of employment. Requires 15 hours of training annually to meet TDFPS requirements. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's license (Operators-Class C) and is subject to review/approval by insurance company on driving record. Must dress in appropriate attire with a neat personal appearance. |

| Working Hours: Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. |
|
| Responsibilities: Maintains open lines of communications with immediate supervisor, parents, and all Head Start staff. Assists teachers in having classroom materials ready at all times, in writing/implementing daily lesson plans inside/outside the classrooms and documenting children’s files daily on class attendance, nutrition monitoring, health monitoring, etc. Reports to teacher his/her observations on individual children and reinforces classroom and environmental safety. Involves parents in educational activities to enhance their role as the principal influence on the child’s education and development. Provides materials appropriate to the child’s age and level of development. Helps Teacher coordinate/schedule center field trips when requested related to curriculum unit and supervises children on/off the bus. Assists teacher with morning inspections--keeping children clean and well-groomed, serving meals and snacks, preparing for nap or rest time, and toilet training. Assists teacher in completing all developmental screening. Assists children through regular periods for physical activity using materials and experiences designed to develop muscles, eye-hand coordination, body awareness, and rhythm & movement. |
