Child Development Specialist
Birth-To-Five Head Start (Infant-Toddler Division)

| Essential Job requirements: AA Degree preferred, but position only requires High School diploma or GED with an Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential and/or must be willing to acquire an Infant/Toddler CDA within 1 year of hire. Must have 1 year of work experience caring for infants and/or toddlers in a TDFPS licensed/regulated facility. Must acquire an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education as soon as reasonably possible. Adequate documentation must be provided to support education requirements. Must successfully pass a physical exam. Must possess or obtain a valid Food Handler's permit and First Aid and CPR certification. Requires 15 hours of training annually to meet TDFPS requirements and 1.5 CEU’s annually. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's license (Operators-Class C) and is subject to review/approval by insurance company on driving record. Must dress in appropriate attire with a neat personal appearance. |

| Responsibilities: Maintains open lines of communications with immediate supervisor, parents and volunteers. Has classroom materials ready at all times. Plans and implements an individualized, responsive plan for infants and toddlers and allows an opportunity for parent input. Documents children’s files daily on class attendance and nutrition, health and behavior monitoring. Reinforces classroom and environmental safety. Screens children for disabilities and submits reports to the Family Service Advocate and Health Coordinator. Involves parents in educational activities to enhance their role as the principal influence on the child’s growth and development. Provides materials appropriate to the child’s age and level of development. Serves the cultural background of the children using classroom materials, activities and related languages. Promotes a high self esteem, is a good role model and follows agency’s behavior management system and code of ethics. Keeps in touch with each child’s family by making two (2) home visits each year. Administers and completes developmental screening on all EHS children within 45 days of the child’s enrollment date. Works closely with the children’s family and the Family Service Technician to maintain attendance. Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Early Head Start Director. |
