Nueces County Community Action Agency offers its Employees an excellent benefit package. Many of these are outlined below.
A. ANNUAL LEAVE BENEFITS
1. Paid annual leave is designed to allow employees meaningful rest and a change of pace from their daily work activities. Therefore, the following annual leave eligibility and accrual standards shall apply:
a. Regular, Full-time Employees
All actively employed Regular, Full-time employees will earn eight (8) hours
of annual leave per month on the first day of the month following the month
of active employment.
b. Regular Part-time Employees
All actively employed Regular, Part-time employees will earn four (4) hours of annual leave per month on the first day of the month following the month of active employment.
B. SICK LEAVE BENEFITS
1. Paid sick leave is designed to protect against the loss of income due to personal illness or illness of those who are dependent on an employee for care during illness. Therefore, the following annual leave eligibility and accrual standards shall apply:
a. Regular, Full-time Employees
All actively employed regular, full-time employees will accrue eight (8) hours of
sick leave per month on the first day of the month following the month of active
employment.
b. Regular, Part-time Employees
All actively employed regular, part-time employees will accrue four (4) hours of sick leave per month on the first day of the month following the month of active employment.
C. JURY DUTY
1. Jury Service is considered to be an obligation, and in the event an employee
is called for jury duty, the Agency will grant an employee jury duty leave for the term of jury service if proper supporting documents and notice is provided.
2. Only Regular Full-time and Regular Part-time employees are eligible for
paid jury duty service.
D. FUNERAL LEAVE
1. Eligibility and Qualifying Event
Only Regular, Full-time and Regular, Part-time employees are eligible to obtain paid leave to arrange for or attend the funeral of a member of the employee’s immediate family which includes: his/her spouse, child, stepchild, foster child, legal ward, parent, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law.
E. EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
1. The Agency offers a confidential, professional counseling and referral
service to all employees and dependent family members who are enrolled in the Agency’s group health insurance plan. This program has been developed to provide a wide range of services with emphasis on resolving problems related to drug and alcohol abuse, marital and family issues, emotional, health, financial or legal issues, and job related stress.
2. Participation is strictly voluntary and available only to those employees
who are enrolled in the group health insurance plan. Employees do not need to notify the Agency if they seek this benefit and choose to participate in any related treatment plans.
3. All costs incurred for participating in this program are the sole
responsibility of the employee.

F. LIFE INSURANCE
1. The Agency offers its employees life insurance.
a. $10,000 Group Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment. This policy is provided to all eligible employees at no cost to the employee.
G. RETIREMENT PENSION PLAN
1. Retired planning is a personal matter. Depending on age, retirement may or may not be years away. For many employees, their current retirement plan may consist of four components: (1) Agency Retirement Pension Plan; (2) Social Security benefits; (3) Supplemental Retirement Income Plans such as Tax Sheltered Annuities; and (4) the employee’s individual retirement income plan, such as an IRA account.
2. The Agency provides an employee retirement pension plan at no cost to the employee.
3. An employee is eligible for the plan after 183 days (6 months) of active employment.
4. All Regular, Full-time and Regular, Part-time employees are eligible for participating in the plan.
5. In accordance with plan documents, the Agency reserves the right to choose, based upon the availability of funds, if it will fund the pension program each year.
6. Additional details of the plan are available through the Human Resources Department.
H. CAFETERIA PLAN
1. The Revenue act of 1978 created Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code
that allows employees to pay for fringe benefits with untaxed dollars, such as medical, life, cancer, and disability insurance.
2. All employees may participate in the benefits of the cafeteria plan if they
are eligible to purchase or eligible to participate in the particular benefit program they wish to enroll into and include in the cafeteria plan. The opportunity to enroll in the cafeteria plan occurs only during the open enrollment period that occurs during the month of December.
3. Employees that have benefits included in the cafeteria plan cannot cancel
any of the benefits they are purchasing through the plan unless they incur a federally approved qualifying event.

I. STATUTORY BENEFITS
1. Eligibility
All full-time, part-time, and temporary employees are covered by statutory benefits, with the exception of COBRA, which applies only to those employees who are covered under the Agency’s group health plan.
2. Statutory benefits include:
a. Social Security
All Agency employees are covered as per Social Security regulations.
b. Workers’ Compensation Insurance
The Agency carries workers’ compensation insurance, which extends to any employee injured in the course and scope of his employment. Reports of on-the-job accidents should be forwarded to the Human Resources office for handling within 24 hours of the accident.
c. Unemployment Compensation
The Agency participates in the state’s Unemployment Insurance Program. Check with the Texas Workforce Commission (formerly called the Texas Employment Commission) for additional information.
d. COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act)
The Agency complies with the extension of group health plan coverage, which is required by the Act. This benefit applies only to those employees who are covered by the Agency’s group health plan and meet the qualifying event as required by the Act.
J. HOLIDAYS
1. The Agency observes the following holidays: Only regular, full-time and
regular, part-time employees are eligible for paid holiday leave.

2. Personal Holiday (Birthday)
a. Personal Holiday General Guidelines
(1). Only Regular, Full-time and Regular, Part-time employees are eligible to obtain a paid personal holiday.
All benefits are subject to change at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
